Memories of Clair about Elsie?

Christmas

When thoughts are turned toward Christmas,
     The happiest time of the year;
A certain long ago Christmas
     Stands out in my mind so clear.
A sparkling, joyful Christmas,
     When I first loved you, my dear.
We sat at your father’s table,
     That day so long ago,
You passed my the cranberries, darling,
     With your lovely cheeks aglow.
Their color was red as the berries,
     For I’d whispered, “I love you so.”
Many a mile I’ve traveled
     Since that Christmas of my youth;
But I always shall remember
     How I dared to speak the truth
To a starry-eyed little maiden.
     I love her yet, forsooth.
